New gun charge sends accused shooter back to jail

SUPERIOR COURT

A Jones County Superior Court Judge revoked bond for a defendant facing 11 charges of aggravated assault in Jones County as well as felony charges in at least two other counties.

Tyshun Amire Gilmore, 19, was in court July 27 for the state’s motion to revoke his bond. The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Cara Fiore, and Gilmore was represented by public defender Tom O’Donnell.

Fiore told the court that, in addition to his Jones County charges, Gilmore was arrested in Cobb County for felony marijuana and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony Nov. 19, 2022. She said he was also arrested in Monroe County for theft by receiving stolen property for a stolen firearm and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony July 7.

Gilmore’s most recent booking date at the Jones County Law Enforcement Center is July 11.

Chief Superior Court Judge Brenda Trammell heard the motion, and after hearing the arguments of the attorneys, revoked Gilmore’s bond. The judge’s order to revoke bond stated that the evidence submitted was sufficient to convince her the defendant’s continued release would constitute a significant threat to the community and a significant risk he would commit another felony.

Gilmore was indicted by a Jones County Grand Jury on the 11 aggravated assault charges June 6 in reference to a shooting that occurred at a gym in a recreation complex. He was indicted with codefendant Shakim Tyhiem Reeder.

A story about the indictment in The Jones County News states Reeder was arrested Feb. 1 and Gilmore May 29. Both were subsequently released on bonds.

The Dec. 20, 2022, report of the incident by Jones County Deputy Zach Allen stated he was dispatched to the Mattie Wells gym in reference to gunshots heard outside of the building. Allen said, when he arrived, he noticed a large group of males standing at the entrance of the gym.

The deputy said he approached the group and was told that someone began shooting at the gym from the outside. He was told three individuals were involved in the shooting and he requested additional units. Deputies Alya Morris, Matthew Johnson, Sgt. Kasey Carr and Investigator Barron Hall arrived at the scene.

Allen said he was told a large group of males were playing basketball inside the gym when one went to his backpack and started talking about “stuff” that was missing. He said the male went outside and came back in making threats, while showing that he had a gun in his pants. The male continued to ask where his “stuff” was. He then went outside, and the crowd followed.

A witness said the male was near the outside basketball court, and he started shooting in the air and yelling. The witness said two other males got into a white minivan, started down the driveway and began shooting at the gym before leaving the area.

Allen said, while speaking to the victims who were in the gym, it was evident that the “stuff” was a pistol that was missing from his bag. He said no one at the gym knew the three males, but he was given descriptions.

It was reported the males were in their late teens or early 20s. Allen said nine .40 caliber shell casings were located in the driveway of the gym, and two projectiles were located inside the gym with multiple fragments scattered around the gym. He said photos were taken of the evidence, including bullet holes in the side of the building and tire tracks leaving the gym.

The case was turned over to JCSO investigators.
