MORE BROADBAND EXPANSION
A groundbreaking and pizza party was held in a Jones County neighborhood last week to announce the expansion of broadband internet service.
The event was hosted by Tri-CoGo in partnership with the Jones County Board of Commissioners in celebration of bringing broadband internet to more than 1,800 locations that are currently unserved or underserved in the county.
The effort was made possible when commissioners decided to utilize $5 million an American Recovery Act funds.
The groundbreaking was held at the corner of Highway 18 and Nature’s Walk subdivision on a hot afternoon Aug.
24. All Jones County Commissioners were in attendance at the event and grabbed ceremonial shovels for the groundbreaking.
The pizza was plentiful and there was no worry about it getting cold as the outside temperature circled the century mark. More good news was the installation of the fiber to homes in the Nature’s Walk subdivision has begun.
A press release for the event quoted Commission Chairman Chris Weidner, who stated that high-speed internet is no longer luxury.
“Virtually everyone needs it for everyday life, and many Jones Countians have gone without it for a long time. We’re happy to partner with Tri-Co Go to improve access to high-speed internet in Jones County,” Weidner said.
Tri-CoGo chief operating officer Greg Mullis said one of the most frequent questions they are receiving is when Georgia Power customers will be served.
“That’s why it’s exciting to be able to announce the partnership,” he said.
