Cry Out America, a nationwide prayer initiative, will be held at Carol’s Park in downtown Gray Sept. 11 at 6 p.m. to pray and give thanks to those who put their lives on the line daily and remember what happened on Sept. 11, 2001.
Debra Hall, Cry Out America coordinator, said she’s excited about the event. She said she enjoys hosting the event each year and seeing the impact it makes on the people of Jones County.
“We are having our annual Cry Out America event that has been going on for over 10 years in Gray. It is on Sept. 11, which is Patriot Day, and it will be at 6 p.m. at Carol’s Park in downtown Gray,” she said. “Bring your folding chairs and some water. Americans need to cry out to God, because our nation is not heading in the right direction, and we have so many problems in society we need to pray for.”
She said Cry Out America is important, because Jones County is a family. She said people need to come together in a spirit of agreement to ask God for the same thing. She said it’s a public display, because no one should be ashamed of their faith and God.
“We will be praying over different topics, and we will be recognizing the first responders in Jones County. Sept. 11 became the official date for this event, because of the history of that day and what happened. We want first responders at the event to tell them thank you, encourage them and pray for them,” Hall said.
The coordinator said in case of inclement weather, Cry Out America will be held at the Gray Baptist chapel. She said people should come out to the event to show they aren’t ashamed of the gospel and to pray over certain goals. She said the event brings everyone together.
Hall said people in the community enjoy Cry Out America each year, and lots of veterans show up. She said she hopes to see everyone at the event and see them praying for the nation to make it a better place for all.
“Our first responders deserve to be recognized, because they are who we count on in an emergency,” the coordinator said. “I enjoy Cry Out America, because I get to see old friends. They are like family now. I also enjoy meeting new people and seeing their excitement at this event. We want Cry Out America to make an impact in our community.”
