COMMUNITY EVENT
The annual Read Thru the Bible event will be at Carol’s Park in Jones County starting Sept. 30 and lasting until Oct. 7. The readings will take place from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily, sharing the Word of God with the entire community.
Debra Hall, the coordinator for the Read Thru the Bible event, said she’s excited about the event this year. She said she hopes people can come out, and they can bring their own Bible if they want, but Bibles will be available at the event.
“We are starting our annual Read Thru the Bible on Sept. 30 at 9 a.m. in Carol’s Park, and we are having a special kick-off celebration that day,” she said. “We will read until 7 p.m. in the evening. Those times will be every day, and this will go on until Oct. 7. We’re hoping we can get it all done in that time.”
She said they want the opening Sept. 30 to be special and fun, so there may be snacks that morning. She said they are there to celebrate the Word of God, so they want the kick-off to be something people enjoy.
“This is important, because we should take a stand and let God know we are not ashamed of others knowing we love Him and believe in His words. This is also a way to share His words with others in the community. His words bring life, lessons, blessings, warnings, and so many things,” Hall said.
The coordinator said they are open to anyone in the community reading from the Bible, and people can sign up ahead of time this year by visiting www.signupgenius. com. People can also contact her by emailing her at kbomin092@gmail.com or calling 478-456-1597.
“It doesn’t matter how old someone is, they can come and read. This is something people will remember,” she said. “People should come out to this event, because they have the freedom to do so. A lot of people are intimidated about speaking in front of others, but they are really speaking to God.”
Hall said people love the Read Thru the Bible event each year. She said she enjoys the fellowship of getting together with other Christians to celebrate the Word of God, but she especially loves seeing the reactions of first timers to the event. She said she really wants to see a lot of people come out to read and listen.
“I pray this Bible reading speaks into the lives of the readers, and the hearers; that it would have the same result of repentance in our community and nation as the reading of God’s Law during the reign of Josiah,” Hall said. “May this reading of God’s Holy Word bring healing, hope and help, salvation and deliverance to our families, our community and our nation.”
