Letters to the Editor

Public Bible reading

Dear Editor,

‘Word of God - Speak!’ is a public reading of the entire Bible. It is a unique opportunity for believers of all ages, races, and denominations, to come together, united as the Body of Christ, in recognition and honor of the Holy Scriptures. We understand the Bible contains the wisdom and direction of Almighty God, our Maker and Savior, to guide our daily lives, as well as every aspect of our community, state and nation. This Bible Reading is a time to take a stand before God and man, declaring the blessings, promises, wisdom, and warnings found in His Holy Word.

The dates for this Bible Reading are September 30 – October 7. This will take place at Carol’s Park with reading hours from 9 am – 7:00 pm each day.

Everyone in Jones County and the middle Georgia community is invited and encouraged to participate in this reading of God’s Holy Word. Many voices are needed over the 80-90 hours it takes to complete this mission. Participants are asked to read for 15-minute intervals or longer. Readers may schedule for specific times by texting (478-4561597) or online at https://www.signupgenius.com/ go/30E044AA8A82AA4FB6-annual.

This Bible reading is a unique opportunity for families, individuals, youth groups, school clubs, church classes, community leaders, civic and other organizations, to unite and accomplish something of eternal worth, as we bless our community and honor our Lord through this act of worship. I have never heard anyone say they regretted giving a few minutes of their time to read. The opposite is true! Everyone says they are glad they participated and wish they had done so sooner.

Please, DO NOT let a concern of possibly of saying a Bible word or name incorrectly prevent you from participating. I am not sure that anybody truly knows how to say those big names; however, I do know God will anoint your effort, and use it as He intends.

Some readers come to the park daily, because they love God’s Word, and desire to bless God and our community by speaking forth the scriptures publicly. They come because they understand the importance and power of the spoken Word of God, they desire to obedient to scripture, and want to bless our Heavenly Father and our community. Also, they want the many blessings associated with this public reading of the Bible.

Those who participate in this public reading demonstrate they are not ashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ, because they know it is the power of salvation to everyone who believes (Romans 1:16-17). They are fulfilling the command found in 1 Timothy 4:13 “Until I come, devote yourself to the public reading of Scripture, to preaching and to teaching”.

Jesus told us that from the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks, the words and tone that come out of our mouth, reveals what is stored up in the heart. It is vital that we study and store up Scripture in our hearts so that in the daily troubles and stormy seasons of life we remain resolute and can even remind ourselves and others of God’s ruling, loving, power in our lives.

The Scriptures are mighty, able to penetrate even the most hardened and darkened hearts, with convicting, life-giving power. They are God-breathed. Any new season of repentance and revival in America can only come through a renewed focus on the great truths of God’s Word.

May this reading of God’s Holy Word bring healing, hope and help, salvation and deliverance to our families, our community and our nation.

An opening celebration will take place on Saturday, October 7, at 9:00. Please join us! Come get your blessing as you bless the Lord and our community.

Sincerely, Debra Hall
