Cheer Hounds take first-place trophy at Middle Georgia Cheer Classic
BONAIRE - Come November, the state’s best competition cheer teams will be under the bright lights of the Macon Coliseum for the GHSA Cheerleading State Championships. For Jones County, the goal to improve with each performance and return to state is ongoing, and the latest step in that effort was Saturday at the Middle Georgia Cheer Classic hosted by Houston County High School.
The event brought teams from all seven of the state’s classifications and squads from as far south as Valdosta and the Georgia coast to Houston County on Saturday.
Jones County’s Competition Cheerleading squad was among them, and they took home a first-place trophy in one of their closest events to home of the season.
The Cheer Hounds compete again Saturday at West Laurens with other upcoming events being at Ola on Oct. 7, at McIntosh on Oct. 28 and the region competition on Nov. 10, also at McIntosh.
Jones County’s elementary middle and high school cheerleading programs will host their Friends & Family Night on Oct. 5 at 6:45 p.m. at the JCHS Gymnasium. Admission is $5, cash only.
