Annual Not-So-Scary Grayberry Spectacular coming soon

COMMUNITY EVENT

The annual Not-So-Scary Grayberry Spectacular, a free community wide Halloween event, will be Oct. 21 from 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. in downtown Gray, giving the community the spookiness of the season in a safe, family friendly environment.

Hannah Foval, coordinator of the event and children’s minister for First Baptist Church, said she’s excited for the event. She said she can’t wait to see everyone there.

“The Not-So-Scary Grayberry Spectacular is going to be held on West Clinton Street in downtown Gray like last year, and it’s a free event for all ages except for the food trucks,” she said. “Costumes are welcome, but we just ask people to remember it’s not-so-scary.”

She said people can park at First Baptist Church, Gray Methodist Church, Butler Hall, the W.E. Knox Civic Center, and any other public parking they can find. She said there will be trunks all up and down the street giving out candy, bouncy houses for children, face paintings, princesses, and food trucks available for guests to take part in.

“This is a family event people can come out to as a community and have fun. It’s a time to laugh together and spend quality time together. Jones County is one of the most community-oriented towns, so having the Not-So-Scary Grayberry Spectacular event here is perfect,” Foval said.

The coordinator said taking part in the Not-So-Scary Grayberry Spectacular is a safer alternative than regular trick-or-treating. She said it’s a great way for people to see the community, too. She said last year they had 4,300 people at the event, so she’s hoping for even more.

“We have over 70 trunks signed up so far, and we’re hoping for even more,” she said. “They are all local churches and local businesses. They will be passing out candy, and we are starting out with 162,369 pieces of candy and there is more on the way.”

Foval said if anyone wants to donate a few bags of candy or anything else for the event can contact her at 225-341-0389. She said First Baptist Church in Gray, Gray United Methodist Church and Main Street Gray are all putting the event on.

She said they couldn’t do this event without the help of all the sponsors. Those sponsors are First Baptist Church of Gray, Main Street Gray, Gray Methodist Church, Jones County Chamber of Commerce, Hart’s Mortuary and Cremation Center, Dairy Queen of Gray, Scooter’s, Suds Bucket Car Wash, Rancher’s, West Clinton Tire, Zaxby’s, Elite Fitness, Crossway Properties, Old Clinton Gas, and Elam Church.

The coordinator said she wants everyone who comes to the event to stop by and get a glow in the dark bracelet, so they can keep up with the number of people who attend the event. She said she is looking forward to seeing everyone at the event and having a spectacular time.

“My favorite thing about this event is seeing our little town of Gray come together for an afternoon of fun,” Foval said. “I’m just glad I get to call Grayberry home. The kids are all talking about this event already, so I’m excited to see their costumes and all the decorated trunks. We hope to see everyone there.”
