Crime Watch

The following information is gleaned from incident reports, which are public record, from the Jones County Sheriff’s Department and Gray Police Department Sept. 28 – Oct. 3, 2023.

Sept. 28

Stolen truck

Deputy Dennis was dispatched to a residence in reference to a stolen truck. When Dennis arrived at the residence, he met with the victim that stated he went out to check on his truck and it was gone. The victim told Dennis that it was approximately 8 pm the last time he saw the vehicle. The victim also advised the deputy the only thing inside the truck was a MacBook laptop. A description of the vehicle was given to the deputy, and it was noted that the truck had a couple of notable stickers on it. One of the stickers was a State of Georgia sticker and the other read “Stand for the Flag and Kneel for the Cross”. The stickers were located on the back glass window and there was also a silver toolbox on the truck. This case still remains active at this time.

Sept. 30

Vehicle break-in

Deputy Robinson was dispatched to a local residence in reference to someone entering an auto. When Robinson arrived on scene, he met with the complainant that advised it the vehicle was parked at his residence and me may have left it unlocked. The complainant also advised there didn’t seem to be anything taken from the vehicle that he could tell. Robinson began to take photos of the vehicle and observed a blue latex glove laying on the ground near the left rear of the vehicle. The driver’s side door was open, and it appeared items had been tossed around inside.

The vehicle’s steering column was also broken open and it appeared whoever entered the vehicle had tried starting it without a key.

Robinson asked the complainant if he or any of the neighbors had cameras on their property, and the male advised Robinson of one neighbor that had cameras.

Robinson made contact with the neighbor and the male advised the deputy he had pictures, but no videos. The male provided the deputy with pictures showing the toolbox on his vehicle was closed at one point and then another picture taken approximately 20 minutes later showed the toolbox open.

Nothing of the stolen vehicle was seen onthephotos. Theneighboralsotold Robinson that he was missing a gas cap lock key from inside his truck that was usually kept in the cup holder inside the vehicle, but he was not sure if anything else was missing. Robinson took photos of both the trucks and issued both of the male subjects with case cards with the case number on them. The case is still open at this time.

Oct. 2

She has no idea why she did it Lt. Hunnicutt was dispatched to a local business in reference to shoplifting. When Hunnicutt arrived on scene he met with an employee that showed him a video of the female offender. The video shows the female open a pack of sandpaper and then place it in her purse. The employee switched to video footage for a different depart of the business and that showed the female subject take a bar of pure milk goat soap and a bottle of pure milk goat hand cream and also place those items in her purse. The outside camera footage of the business showed the female walking to her vehicle, and Hunnicutt was able to get the tag number from the footage. Hunnicutt checked the tag number through the GCIC database and found the name of the female subject and a phone number. Hunnicutt called the female and advised they have her on camera taking items from the store and placing them in her purse without paying for them.

The female told Hunnicutt that she did take the items without paying for them and she has no idea why she did it. The female also told Hunnicutt she still had the items and would give them back. The Lt. went to the residence of the female at that time and retrieved the stolen items. the female seemed to be very apologetic. Hunnicutt issued the female a citation for shop lifting less than $500.00 and also issued a criminal trespass notification from the business.

Oct. 3

Can I get a ride to the grocery store?

Deputy Marcum was patrolling the area of Eatonton Hwy. when he observed a male subject flagging him down to stop. Marcum stopped to check on the male and the male asked the deputy for a ride to a local grocery store. The deputy frisked the male for weapons and let him get in the back seat of his patrol vehicle. Marcum decided to run the subject’s information through GCIC and it came back to show the male had a warrant for his arrest out of Bibb County. Bibb County confirmed the warrant and the male was placed under arrest and transported to the Jones County Law Enforcement Center to be released to booking staff.
