The Jones County Kiwanis Club held its annual Francis Golson Memorial Golf Tournament on Columbus Day, Oct. 9, at Jonesco Golf Course. President Charles Newberry congratulated the winners as follows: 1st Place: Lundy Team: Chase Lundy, Dillon Dupree, Patrick Reeves, and Zack Haney. 2nd Place: Appling Brothers Team: Kenneth Cobb, Johnny Brown, James Tuft, and Larry Tuft. 3rd Place: Farnsworth Insurance Team: Rob Farnsworth, Robert Persons, Brian McCommon, and Peyton Ethridge. 4th Place: Gray Memorial Chapel Team: Terry Mansford, Sam Patton, Mike Hutto, and Randy Evans.
All proceeds from the tournament are donated to Scout Troop 485 and the Eston Altman Scouting Center of Jones County. The Kiwanis Club netted in excess of $7,000 this year.
The tournament honors Francis Golson who was a member of Kiwanis for 62 years and who was Executive Vice President of the Bank of Gray for 20 years. Mr. Golson loved golf and Kiwanis and was a strong supporter of scouting.
Eston Altman was also a member of Kiwanis and was the driving force behind the scouting center in Gray.
Kiwanis thanks all sponsors, contributors, and golfers who made this tournament a great success.
President Newberry also thanked Kiwanians for their hard work, and especially Sara Wood who chaired the tournament committee this year.
