Greyhounds win Hornet Invitational

GREYHOUND GRAPPLERS

Weekend by weekend, the Greyhounds are building toward January. That’s when the dual matches that will matter the most – the region duals – come calling on Jan. 13 in Gray. Between now and then, Jones County will continue to fine-tune things on most weekends, and they appeared to be clicking rather well on Saturday in the Hornet Invitational in Adel.

The Greyhounds won first place overall with six wrestlers finishing first or second in their weight classes. Aiden Lipford and Arrie Martin came back to Gray with first-place hardware. But the points came from beyond those two. Landon Lewis, Hunter McCleskey, Robert Scott and David Little picked up points for the overall tally by finishing second with Jackson Brown and Landon Pittman finishing third and Jacob Skinner coming away with a finish of fourth.

The Greyhounds racked up points by battling back throughout the day. Lewis and McCleskey went all the way to the final round of their bracket before losing, with Pittman battling back for his finish along with Brown getting two wins to place third. Brown won twice in the end to finish third with Scott and Little also earning JCHS points by advancing all the way to the final round of their weight class before losing.

The Greyhounds schedule away from home continues this weekend at the Great Smoky Mountain Grapple in Asheville, N.C., and in Lexington, S.C., Dec. 29-30 for the Knockout Sportwear Duals before the Packer Classic on Jan.

5-6 in Moultrie.
