–George Sheffield For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end. (Jer 29:11) Jesus was born at Christmas to bring you a new life. He has a plan for you, a purpose for you. This world has no plan or purpose. It will toss you about like a leaf in the wind. And the devil may throw baubles at you just to keep you entertained so as to distract you from Jesus.
But Jesus has a predestinated, prepared plan for you once you are saved. His plan will give meaning to your breathing; fulfillment in living. This doesn’t mean there won’t be troubled times in your life. God has never in His word promised a trouble free life. But with Jesus, even in those troubles you will find purpose. And when you die, His plan will bring you into Heaven, “the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world” (Mt 25:34).
God’s plans for us are different, but they all have common elements. They are plans of peace, not of evil, to give us a future and a hope. These are the thoughts that Jesus thinks towards you and me.
And He was born to bring those thoughts alive in us.
