The following information is gleaned from incident reports, which are public record, from the Jones County Sheriff’s Department and Gray Police Department Jan. 19-30, 2024.
Jan. 19
Giving false name and meth possession
Deputy Dennis was patrolling the area of Overland Way and Lite-N-Tie Road when he observed a female walking down the road.
When Dennis stopped to check on the female, she stated that she and her son had an argument, so she was just walking to get away, then she stated her son was on the way to pick her up. Dennis asked the female for her name, and she gave him a first name only at that time. The female continued to tell the deputy that she was fine, and her son was on his way to pick her up and take her to a local business. Dennis knew something was not right by the way she paused and only gave a first name, and it was after midnight, so he knew the business that she stated she was going to was closed at that time.
Dennis asked the female subject for her first name, last name and date of birth and she gave him the information. The deputy advised dispatch to search the GCIC/ NCIC system with the name and date of birth. Moments later a city police officer seemed to know who the female was and if so, she had active warrants for her arrest. Dennis advised the female of the possible active warrants and told her she needed to empty her pockets into her purse. While doing so, the deputy observed a small, sealed jar. Upon closer inspection of the jar, the deputy observed a small quantity of methamphetamine inside. The female subject was placed under arrest at that time. A short time later, dispatch confirmed that she was wanted in Jones County and Macon-Bibb County. The female was then transported to the Jones County LEC. Arrest warrants for possession of methamphetamine and giving false name to law enforcement officer will be obtained on the female subject.
Jan. 24
Fell asleep in the deputy’s car
Deputy Marcum was monitoring traffic on Shurling Drive when he observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed, the tag lights were out, and the driver was not restrained. Marcum caught up to the vehicle just as it was pulling into a driveway off Millerfield Road. As the deputy pulled in behind the vehicle, a female driver exited from the car.
Marcum instructed the driver to stop but she ignored his command. The deputy yelled at the female subject again and she then turned around and began to walk towards him. As the female approached Marcum, he could smell a strong scent of alcohol emitting from her person. Marcum asked the female for her license, and she advised him she did not have one. The deputy noticed that her speech was also slurred and slow.
The deputy asked the female for her name and date of birth. He then relayed this information to Jones County Dispatch, and they advised that the name and birth date did not exist. Marcum asked the female how much she had to drink, and she said a “little” then told the deputy she had a couple.
She told the deputy that she had been drinking since around 1:30 in the morning, however the deputy looked at his watch and it was only a couple minutes past midnight.
Before Marcum could call her out on the discrepancy’s she admitted that she was lying. She then gave the deputy another first and last name but seemed to have to think about it. She did not supply Marcum with her date of birth.
Once again, dispatch advised Marcum they could not identify her. Marcum continued on with his DUI investigation at that time.
The deputy asked the female to perform the Standardized Field Sobriety Test, but the female refused. Based on the female’s speech pattern, driving behavior, eye condition and unsteadiness on her feet; Marcum placed the female under arrest for driving under the influence of alcohol less safe. She was then placed in handcuffs in the back seat of the deputy’s patrol car. Marcum did an in-house search for her true identity and ultimately identified her. When confronted, she admitted that was her identity.
She had a warrant out of Bibb County for failure to appear for DUI and giving false name and date of birth. The female was transported to the Jones County LEC. During the transportation, Marcum looked in his rear-view mirror and noticed that the female was sound asleep in the back of his patrol car. She was released to the Jones County jailers once they arrived at the LEC.
Jan. 27
“I prefer not to go with you”
Deputy Sullivan was dispatched to a residence on Upper River Road in reference to serving a warrant on an individual. Upon arrival at the residence, Sullivan made contact with the male subject in question. The male subject was standing at the front door of the residence and Sullivan asked the male to step outside and speak to him. The male subject advised the deputy that he “would prefer not to.” Once again, the deputy asked the subject to step outside, and the male replied he “would prefer not to.” At that time, Sullivan placed the male subject in handcuffs and advised him that he would be under arrest for aggravated stalking. The male was secured in the backseat of Sullivan’s patrol car and transported to the Jones County LEC where he was served with the warrant and turned over to jail staff.
Jan. 30
Aware his license was suspended
Deputy Elrod was on patrol when a truck passed him headed back toward Macon with a cracked windshield.
Elrod could tell the windshield had multiple cracks based on how the sunlight was shining off of it as the vehicle passed him. At that time, Elrod turned around and caught up to the vehicle, activated his blue lights and conducted a traffic stop. The deputy made contact with the male driver and a male passenger. When Elrod asked for the driver’s license, the male handed him an ID card only from the state of Kentucky. Elrod had dispatch run the driver and passenger’s information through the GCIC/NCIC system and it came back to show the driver had a suspended license out of Kentucky and North Carolina. The male subject advised Deputy Elrod he was aware that his license was suspended. Elrod had the male driver step out of the vehicle and issued him a citation for driving on a suspended license and a written warning for the cracked windshield.
Sgt. Humphries arrived on scene and transported the male driver to the Jones County LEC and turned over to jail staff for booking.
