Shamrock Ball at DFES

ST. PATRICK’S DAY

Dames Ferry Elementary School held a Shamrock Ball, a Saint Patrick’s Day-themed father-daughter dance.

Christin White, a fourthgrade teacher at Dames Ferry Elementary School, said girls in kindergarten through fifth grade at Dames Ferry Elementary School were invited to spend the evening at the Shamrock Ball with a special male role model in their lives. She said the girls at the school were really excited to go to the dance.

“The Shamrock Ball here at Dames Ferry has been in the works all year long. We always do a father-daughter dance, but we wanted to do something a little different this year,” she said. “We have been doing renovations, so we pushed back our traditional Valentine’s dance. We were excited to do something different.”

She said they brought in Teddy Bear Mobile, a mobile on-site animal stuffing vendor for the girls to get a stuffed animal made and pick out an outfit for it. She said it was something else to add to the memory of the evening.

“We like to offer academic events for the family to come to, but sometimes we just like to have fun at Dames Ferry. This was a good opportunity for us to continue building relationships and bringing our families onto the campus. We don’t normally get to dress up and have a good time, so this was something special to do,” White said.

Morgan Sanford, a fifth-grade student, said she was excited for the Shamrock Ball, and her favorite part of the evening was dancing with her father. She said she was excited to dress up for the dance, and she said her father was stunned to see her.

“This dance was important to have at Dames Ferry, because it helped to create a more special bond with your dad,” Sanford said. “My dad is funny and really nice, plus we do a lot of fun stuff together. We travel and we play softball together.”

The teacher said some of the girls received a ticket in their dinner boxes for a prize, since the community donated items for the dance. She said she was excited to see so many fathers and daughters at the dance creating great memories.

“The girls always have a lot of fun at the dances,” Sanford said. “It breaks things up a bit, since we have two more weeks until spring break. It’s something different and exciting.”
