You’re taking me to jail anyway
Deputy Morris was dispatched to Bethune Ave. near Flora Wyche Dr. in reference to a suspicious person. Upon arrival, Morris observed a female holding a helmet sitting on one side of the road and a moped with no tag laying on the opposite side of the roadway still running. The deputy asked the female if she was ok, and the female advised she was. The female subject told the deputy that she had participated in a memorial ride that day. As soon as the female subject spoke, Morris detected the smell of alcohol coming from the female’s breathe. The deputy also observed the female had slurred speech when she spoke, swayed as she stood in one place and red, glassy eyes. The female subject also displayed difficulty recalling events and understanding the deputy. Morris asked the female how much she had to drink, and the female advised she did not know. The female could not even tell Morris what she had to drink that day. Morris began the Standard Field Sobriety test on the female at that time. At one point, the deputy asked the female if she could see her finger to perform the test, and the female replied that it did not matter, she was going to jail anyway. Morris placed the female in handcuffs and was going to read the subject the Implied Consent when the female started crying and called the deputy a few choice words and stated she was “going to spit on her.” While Morris continued to read the Implied Consent, the female subject was talking nonsense. The deputy completed the Implied Consent and the female asked repeatedly if she was done. The Implied Consent was refused by the female. When Morris placed the female in her patrol car, the female was calmed down but still crying then apologized to the deputy and asked her to read the Implied Consent again. This time, the female subject agreed to testing of her blood. Morris transported the female subject to the Jones County LEC where medical staff was on scene for the blood draw. Citations were also issued for DUI – less safe, driving with a suspended license and tag/registration requirements.
