–George Sheffield “I hate pride“ (Prov 8:13) Jesus hates pride. Pride is the original sin which, believe it or not, started in Heaven. Started by Satan who was the beautiful, anointed cherubim. Eze 28:14-19 speaks about the devil’s fall. He was perfect until sin was found in him. His heart was lifted up--pride-- because of his beauty. He rebelled against God, so he cast from heaven.
Satan used pride to entice Eve to sin. She saw the tree as something that would make her like God.
The pride of life got her.
(Gen 3).
Prov 16:18 tells us that pride brings destruction, it will bring a fall.
Jesus said pride is one of the sins of the heart.
(Mark 7:20-23).
God warns in Prov 16:5, “The Lord detests all the proud of heart. Be sure of this: They will not go unpunished”. In the KJV, this verse says that pride is an abomination to God. Why is pride such a bad thing? Because it is rebellion against God.
It deceives people into thinking they don’t need God, that they can be the own god of their lives.
Pride is a sin not to be celebrated. And when you mix it with sexual immorality, it’s even worse.
Double abomination.
Repent of pride. Blessed are the pure in heart.
Blessed are the meek.
