The Jones County Library celebrated fathers last weekend, helping children in the Jones County community celebrate Father’s Day with personalized cards and a game day.
Julie King, the branch manager of the Jones County Library, said she was excited to celebrate Father’s Day at the library and help make it a special time for families.
“Here at the Jones County Public we have been celebrating fathers for Father’s Day, so on June 11 we had a craft day where kids came in and made cards for their dads,” she said. “We had a lot of people show up for that, showing how much they love the father figures in their lives. It was exciting.”
Saturday, June 15 they had a Father’s Day game day at the library with families. She said they put out a bunch of stuff for fathers to do things with their children, such as nerf guns, bubbles, chalk, frisbees, and other games.
“We were just so excited to honor our fathers. We had a Mother’s Day tea for the moms, so we wanted to do something fun with our dads. It was all just a big game room for the dads. Families are so important to us here at the library,” King said.
The branch manager said everything the library does is about families, so they wanted to help the children who frequent the library in the community do something special for the father figures in their lives. She said it was a great way for the fathers to spend some time with their little ones, too.
“We also want to keep kids reading for the summer and make literacy a priority. We want the kids to get ahead in reading. We want to bring the kids in and have them keep reading, but also have time together with their dads and families. Reading books together helps with literacy and bonding,” she said.
The fathers and children appeared to have a lot of fun. King said she is happy the community supports the Jones County Library, so they can have fun events like they did for Father’s Day. The children also had fun making the Father’s Day cards.
The manager said she always enjoys Father’s Day and seeing that special bond children have formed with their fathers. She said she hopes the children celebrate their fathers all year long, but it’s nice to have a special day dedicated to fathers.
“As a mom, my favorite thing was always getting something personal and homemade from my kids. The cards allowed them to really think about their dads as they made them,” she said. “It was something special just for the dads, and it was definitely something more meaningful to give the dads. I hope all of them enjoyed the games, too.”
