Jones County Animal Services has future family members and companions in a furry form waiting to be adopted and loved by local families.
Jennifer Allen, director of Jones County Animal Services, said they always hope to get every dog and cat adopted to avoid euthanasia. Allen said people should come check out the animals they have available because they might find a new friend.
“We are in mid-summer here at Jones County Animal Services, and we are full. We are always staying at capacity,” she said. “We are full of cats and dogs, so that’s why it’s important for people to spay and neuter their pets. This helps with overcrowding at animal shelters.”
The director said they are always looking for people to adopt from the shelter. If people can’t adopt, sharing Facebook posts helps to get the word out about the animals ready for adoption at Jones County Animal Services.
“Every animal deserves a loving home. Just because they are in the shelter doesn’t mean they don’t deserve a home, so please adopt. They want their forever home and to be someone’s companion,” Allen said.
The director said people in Jones County should make sure their pets are on leashes and their fences are intact, so they won’t end up wandering and end up in the shelter.
Making sure pets are spayed and neutered helps with the overpopulation of animals, too.
“Aside from the overpopulation issue, there are also health benefits to spaying and neutering your pets,” she said. “There are lower cost options for spaying and neutering if people Google and look around. SAFE is one of the options, as well as other low-cost veterinary options in the area.”
Allen said they are looking for volunteers to help with the animals, and anyone is welcome.
She said any bit of socialization the animals get is good for them, and it increases their chances to be adopted.
“We are always looking for donations. We have an amazon wish list on our Facebook page. We always need cleaning supplies, blankets, dog food, cat food, and anything else.
Every little bit helps us here, and we will not turn it down. If we don’t have to spend money on those things, we can spend money on vet bills and unknown problems that arise,” she said.
The director said once people pick out their new family member to adopt and fill out the paperwork, they get set up with a future spay/neuter date.
Once the pet gets spayed or neutered, then they are good to go. It costs $110 to adopt a pet from Jones County Animal Services.
“Volunteering, donating to the shelter and sharing our social media posts helps us out here at the shelter,” she said.
“Anything people want to do to help us out here is great, and we are thankful for that. We hope to always see people adopting, but anything they do to help us out here is wonderful.”
