Fall teams look ahead to season at media day

JCHS FALL SPORTS

In college football, annual media days serve as an outward sign of the offseason nearing its conclusion and that the season is coming up soon.

There was a similar sentiment on Monday night at Jones County High School as the athletic department once again hosted its fall sports media day event. The event, which has become an annual occasion, afforded coaches of fall sports at JCHS the opportunity to preview the upcoming season and also introduce top student-athletes in the upper grades to share their perspectives on the sport that they play and the upcoming season.

Jones County’s competition cheerleading squad, led by coaches Allie Lowe and Cortlyn Barton, began the night, looking ahead to a season in which goals include once again advancing to the state cheerleading championships.

They were followed by head coach Geoff Moore and runners from the Greyhounds and Lady Greyhounds cross country teams that have goals of threepeating as region champions and beyond.

The Lady Greyhounds volleyball squad also took their time at the head table, offering a preview for a program now in its fifth season of play.

The night was concluded with the Lady Greyhounds softball team looking ahead to its season before the football team, which scrimmages Friday at Mary Persons also previewing what to expect.
