Ran out of gas

Deputy Elrod was on patrol when he received an alert from a Flock Camera on a vehicle with suspended registration. Elrod ran the tag number through the GCIC/NCIC system, and it came back to show the vehicle had suspended registration, no insurance and that the registered owner had a suspended license.

Elrod searched the area, and he eventually located the vehicle on the side of the road with its hazard lights on. The deputy pulled in behind the vehicle and activated his blue lights. Elrod made contact with the male driver and female passenger and asked if they were ok. The male advised the deputy that he had ran out of gas as he was heading home from Dublin. Elrod asked the male for his license and was able to identify the male driver as the registered owner. Deputy Sullivan arrived on scene to assist with the stop. At that time, Sullivan had the female exit the vehicle and positively identified her. Elrod deployed his K9 partner to conduct a sniff of the exterior of the vehicle.

The K9 alerted and indicated on the driver side of the vehicle. A search of the vehicle resulted in finding drug paraphernalia in the female passenger’s purse. The female had a small scale and multiple torch lighters. The deputy also found a metal container in a bag that belonged to the female, and it had old methamphetamine residue in it. The female subject advised the deputies that she had an addiction problem and was trying to get clean. No more illegal drugs were found in the vehicle. The deputies also found an old revolver in the female’s purse in the bed of the truck along with a metal container. The revolver was missing its cylinder for holding bullets. Elrod conducted another search around the area where the truck was parked at and found a silver Taurus G2C pistol laying off to the passenger side of the truck.

The female passenger immediately took ownership of the pistol also.

Elrod then had dispatch run history checks on the male driver and female passenger. The female came back clean; however, the driver was a convicted felon. At that time, the male was arrested for driving on a suspended license, no insurance and suspended registration and taken to the Jones County LEC for booking.

The female passenger was released.
