The Pilot Club completed its September project, fingerprinting kindergarten students (with parental approval) in the four elementary schools.
Pilot members registered students by recording their physical characteristics (height, weight, eye color).
After this was completed, the students were sent to one of several deputies who explained the fingerprinting process and made sure students understood and were comfortable. When the fingerprinting was completed, the Pilots were ready to clean fingers and hands to complete the process. The information was sent home to parents in the event it is ever needed.
Pilot Club member Fay Mathews said interacting with the students made it a fun project.
“We appreciate the cooperation of parents, schools and of course the staff of the Jones County Sheriff’s Office who make it possible,” she said.
Mathews said, as a token of the club’s appreciation, Pilot member Kathy Jackson made red velvet cupcakes and presented them to sheriff’s office personnel.
