“In the year that king Uzziah died I saw also the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and his train filled the temple.” (Isa 6:1).
Isaiah was a prophet of God who lived roughly during 800’s-700’s BC.
His name means “God saves”, the same meaning as that of Joshua and Jesus. It was during the year that King Uzziah died that God called Isaiah to be a prophet.
Chapter 6 of Isaiah describes the call that he received from God.
Some say it was just a vision; others believe that Isaiah was transported into the very presence of God, just as Paul was (II Cor.12:2). It also may be that at the time of this vision, Isaiah was worshiping in the temple at Jerusalem, for Isaiah lived in Jerusalem. But it may well be, that if he was transported to Heaven, he may have been in the Heavenly temple mentioned in Hebrews 9:24. Jesus “is not entered into the holy places made with hands, which are the figures of the true; but into heaven itself”. The temple on earth, made by human hands, was a figure (replica) of the true temple in Heaven made by God. In any case, Isaiah was called by God to be a prophet.
You have been called too--to be a child of God through faith in Jesus.
He calls you wherever you are. Be like Isaiah and respond to that call.
Become God’s temple on earth to shine His light in this dark world.
