The phrase “chuck it from the cheap seats” took on more meaning than a line from the movie “Hoosiers” in last week’s season opener for the Greyhounds.
Facing a Putnam County team that uncharacteristically missed the postseason last year, Jones County’s prowess in the paint was not enough to overcome the War Eagles’ firepower from the outside as Putnam drilled 14 threepointers to the five of the Greyhounds in a 67-49 win.
That outside shooting put JCHS in an early hole, as they were outscored 22-6 in the second quarter to trail 45-23 at halftime. The Hounds trailed 57-31 going to fourth before a late run outscoring Putnam by eight points in the final quarter to finish strong.
JCHS put forth a workman-like effort in the paint, holding a 38-24 overall rebounding edge with Jayden Tolbert and Tyler Wold each pulling down 10.
Justin Ray led the Hounds from the outside, draining four three-pointers as he scored 15 points with Wold adding 10.
