Third-quarter defense keys Lady Hounds’ opening-night win

When it came to last Tuesday’s season opener for the Lady Greyhounds, a defensive third quarter turned the tide in Jones County’s favor in a 60-50 win over Putnam County.

Thanks in part to a slow offensive start, JCHS trailed 27-23 at halftime. All of that changed after the break, however.

The Lady Greyhounds stepped up on defense, holding PCHS to just six third-quarter points. Jones County – which was led offensively by Kamiyah Adams and Aubrey Norris with 12 points apiece – outscored the War Eagles 22-6 in the third.

That allowed the Lady Hounds to lead 45-33 going into the final quarter and coast to the win during a game in which Desirae Dumas added 10 points to the offensive effort.

There was more to the win than just points scored for Jones County, which was led on the boards by the 10 rebounds of Kynnidi Houston and the nine of Adams.
