Lady Hounds seize control early to steamroll Patriots

GREYHOUND HOOPS

If there has been on area of which the Lady Greyhounds have sought improvement in the early part of the season, it has been to start games more smoothly.

Jones County had no such issue with that last Tuesday at Southwest Macon.

The Lady Hounds walked onto the floor as the more talented roster and played like it, holding the Patriots to four first-half points, rendering them scoreless in the second quarter to lead 46-4 at halftime en route to a 69-19 win.

“We came out and played to our strengths,” Lady Greyhounds head coach Takeo Gray said. “We accomplished all of our goals that we set coming in here.”

Southwest appeared content to sit back in a zone defense to defend Jones County, and the Lady Hounds obliged as Autumn Coleman and Destinee Dumas combined for five of Jones County’s nine three-pointers as the Lady Hounds shot 53 percent from three-point range.

“We have lots of confidence in our shooters.

We feel comfortable when someone plays zone against us,” Gray said.

Coleman and Anderson, who had four and three steals respectively, each had 13 points as JCHS also found success generating points off turnovers and in its transition offense.

With such a big lead, the Lady Hounds were able to get their reserves into the game in the second half during a game in which 12 players scored at least one point.

Tuesday’s win gave JCHS a 3-1 record leading into this week’s start of region that began Tuesday at McDonough followed by games Friday at Eagles Landing and Saturday at Stockbridge.

“We feel good about ourselves coming off of this,” Gray said. “Hopefully, it carries over.”
