Greyhounds claim one first place finish, two runners-up

GREYHOUND GRAPPLERS

In some aspects of life, there’s an element to perhaps taking the foot off the gas going toward Christmas and the new year.

That’s not evident around the Greyhounds wrestling program during a build up to the region duals the second weekend of January followed a week later by the state duals at Ola.

Between now and then, JCHS will take on a bit of different type of tournament setup, each of which brings its own challenges.

The latest was this past weekend at Jefferson, where the Greyhounds captured one first-place win with two others placing second as overall nine Jones County wrestlers placed seventh or better.

Arrie Martin led that group of grapplers, going 6-0 in the 157-pound division to take first with both Hunter McCleskey and Noah Pieterick using 4-0 starts to take second in the 113- and 120-pound class.

Other wrestlers up and down the JCHS roster fought back over the course of the tournament to pick up points. Nate McDaniel took sixth at 126 pounds thanks to a win in his consolation match with Luke Thompson, battling to finish fourth by way of advancing to the consolation semifinal.

Other top JCHS finishers were Jacob Skinner and Shooter Lumley in sixth with seventh-place finishes by Nate Wilson at 138 pounds, John Rackley at 150, Hunter Hardwick at 175, along with Barrett Rosenberger and Garrett Green at 215 and 285.

Jones County takes another out-of-state trip this weekend at the Beast of the Beach tournament in Fort Walton Beach, Fla.
