The following information is gleaned from incident reports, which are public record, from the Jones County Sheriff’s Department and Gray Police Department Jan. 23-29, 2025.
Jan. 23
Wanted on felony warrant
Sgt. Walker was on routine patrol on Shurling Drive when he received an alert on his in-car license plate reader of a vehicle with expired registration. At that time, Walker conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle. When Walker ran the driver’s information through the GCIC/NCIC system, it also came back to show that the owner/driver was wanted out of Bibb County for a Felony warrant. Walker detained the driver and contacted Bibb County to confirm the warrant. Once the warrant was confirmed, the driver was issued a warning for his expired registration and was transported to the Jones County LEC to await pickup from Bibb County.
Jan. 24
Terroristic threats
Officer Pointer responded to a local residence for a report of threats. Once Pointer arrived on scene, he met with the male complainant that advised the officer of a male subject that threatened to kill him on Facebook Live. The complainant told Pointer that he had put a Facebook comment online about a business regarding their customer service. When the complainant saw the threat made to him, he contacted law enforcement. Pointer reviewed the video and heard the male subject call the complainant out by name and stated, “on his mom he would kill him.” The complainant stated he called the Sheriff’s office because he did not know what to do and he wished to pursue charges against the subject. Pointer contacted a Judge and advised him of the incident. The Judge listened to the videos and agreed that a charge of terroristic threats and acts was appropriate in this case. Pointer entered a warrant into the system against the male subject on the charge. UPDATE: Jan. 27, 2025, the subject was arrested by Deputy Elrod of the JCSO and transported to the Jones County LEC for booking.
Trying to ditch the officer
Deputy Brown was patrolling the area of GA Hwy. 49 heading North when he observed a vehicle approaching him at a faster than normal speed. Brown checked his in-car radar, and it clocked the vehicle traveling 77 mph in a 55-mph speed zone.
Brown flashed his blue lights and turned around to initiate a traffic stop on the vehicle.
As the deputy approached the vehicle and was about to activate his siren, the vehicle turned into a residential driveway off Hwy. 49 South.
The vehicle came to a stop and Brown made contact with the female driver. Brown asked the female where she was going in such a hurry and the female driver stated she was “trying to get to a gas station to get gas.” The deputy advised the female that she was not stopped at a gas station. The female stated that she was not from around here, she is just trying to get gas. The female told Brown that she was not from around here. Brown asked where she was from, and the female driver advised she was from Milledgeville.
Brown stated, “well that’s close enough for you to know where you are.” The female driver agreed with the deputy. At that time, Brown said to the female, “you turned down this driveway trying to ditch him.”
The female advised the deputy that he was correct. She was dodging him. Brown asked the female for her driver’s license, and she showed him a photo of her license off her phone. The deputy then ran the female driver’s information, and it came back to show she had no insurance.
Brown asked the female to tell him the truth about the reason she tried to ditch him, and the female advised the deputy, because she was speeding.
The female was then placed in Deputy Brown’s patrol car and transported to the Jones County LEC where she was turned over to jail staff. The female driver was charged with speeding in excess of maximum limits and no insurance.
Jan. 29
Obstruction of law enforcement officers
Deputy Watkins was working security at the Jones County Courthouse when he made contact with a very irate female subject entering the Courthouse. The female subject went through the metal detector with no issues, however, Watkins advised the female that she would have to remove the hat she was wearing before entering in the courtroom. The female subject became very agitated and threw her hat down and with foul language told the deputy he could keep the hat.
The female subject began to walk away while loudly cursing and being very disrespectful inside the courthouse where several employees and customers could hear her. The suspect went in and out of the courthouse at least three times and each time she came back inside using more cuss words and being very disrespectful.
Watkins finally made contact again with the female subject and advised her to calm down or she would have to leave.
The female continued to be irate and confrontational with Watkins as he attempted to calm her down. The female then tried to enter the elevator, however, Watkins was able to keep the doors from closing at that moment.
The female was still being confrontational and would not listen or comply with the deputy’s commands. Watkins then advised the female that she was going to have to leave the courthouse. At that time, the female subject resisted and pushed the deputy away yelling at him to get his hands off of her. The deputy put the female up against a wall and she still continued to resist and not comply with commands.
Watkins was finally able to put the female subject to the ground to gain control and apprehend her. The deputy had to have assistance from a courthouse employee to place handcuffs on the female. Once the female subject was finally detained, she was placed in the deputy’s patrol vehicle and transported to the Jones County LEC where she was turned over to jail personnel.
