Even with a slow start, the Greyhounds found plenty of ease on Monday afternoon in their official season opener against Howard.
Cason Taylor and Trent Paulk combined to one-hit the Huskies as Jones County scored runs in all but the first inning, prevailing after five innings on the mercy rule.
“Cason and Trent, both of them went out there did an awesome job for us,” Jones County head coach Noble Coley said.
The Greyhounds pushed across five runs in the second inning, two in the third and fourth before putting things away with a seven-run fifth frame.
“Being on the winning side of things is always good, but we know we have work to do. Our pitching and defense have been pretty good through the scrimmage game and (Monday),” Coley said. “The hitting is getting there, but we need to get it there. We know we have work to do, and we’re going to get it there.”
Brayden Lampkin led Jones County at the plate with two hits and four RBIs with a pair of runs being driven in by Taylor, Emerson Robinson, and MJ Lane.
