–George Sheffield “And He said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature”-- Mk 16:15 It was said that Elvis had a man on his payroll whose job was to get Elvis out of conversations with people he didn’t want to talk to--without hurting anyone’s feelings. This man, on cue from Elvis, would come up and say something like “Elvis we have to leave now”. This would politely excuse Elvis from the encounter.
Jesus on the other hand will deliberately put us in situations where we are to talk with people to share His Gospel with them. He will have individuals cross our paths, giving us the opportunity to tell them about His saving grace.
Much like He did Phillip the deacon in Acts 8. Jesus has commissioned His followers to go and tell what He has done for us. Share the Gospel by sharing your testimony to those the Holy Spirit leads you to speak to. Tell them what the Bible says about salvation, how God so loved us that He gave His only begotten Son to save us from our sins if we repent. It isn’t our job to convince people to be saved; that’s the Holy Spirit’s work. Our job is to simply go and tell the Good News.
Elvis’ hired man got him out of situations of talking with people. Jesus our Lord will place us in situations so we can talk with people about Him.
Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God--Rom 10:17.
