Williams hired as strength and conditioning coach

GRIDIRON GREYHOUNDS

In starting to fill out the Greyhounds new staff of coaches under head football coach Justin Montgomery, the first hire that was officially announced last week with the hiring of Taylor Williams as strength and conditioning coordinator.

The fact that the first hire was not an offensive or defensive coordinator, but rather a strength coach, was no accident, says Montgomery.

“It was very intentional. Strength and conditioning is a top priority for us, so it was really important to get somebody in,” Montgomery said.

Williams comes to Gray from Gainesville, where his efforts were part of a Red Elephants program that in the past three years has won two region titles and finished once as state runner-up in either the 6A or 7A classifications.

Similar to Montgomery’s recent coaching background, being under one of the state’s top coaches in Carrollton’s Joey King, Williams comes to JCHS having been part of a program led by Josh Niblett.

“I was blessed to be there and learn from Coach Niblett. I learned a lot from them and will lead how I know how to lead and bring that from there to put into our philosophy and systems,” Williams said. “The best thing up there was that everybody was all-in. It was the little things like core values, how you run the weight room and how you impact the kids each day.”

Also like Montgomery, Williams will come to JCHS where he has family close by. His nearby relatives include those being just down the road in Monroe County.

“It’s great to be back home. We’re all-in on being Jones County Greyhounds,” Williams said. “Coach Montgomery, he’s a great coach, great man and an excellent leader. The opportunity to impact this community is huge.”
