Even in the face of adversity, the competitive spirit still remains for the Greyhounds.
Jones County fell 5-0 last Tuesday at home to Union Grove, prioritizing the defensive end in the second half in allowing just two second-half goals.
That strategy, Greyhounds head coach Nathan Robertson explains, is one with its good and bad elements. While it does devote more players toward the defensive end, it does so at the expense of offensive attackers.
“We changed our formation up a little bit to try and get more people on defense and try to push (the ball) upfield more and repossess it up top,” Robertson said. “Once we figure out the pieces of who can do what, you want to try and give them in the right spots. Sometimes, you have to give up a little bit to keep a few more off the board on the defensive end.”
JCHS, which hosts Eagles Landing next Tuesday, also fell 11-1 Friday at Stockbridge.
“One thing I am proud with this team is the effort that they give, no matter what,” Robertson said. “I think we’re progressing; we’re just not quite there yet.”
