Gillhouse named region coach of year, Hardwick and Pieterick first team all-region
At the end of a season capped off by a school record 12 state tournament participants and two wrestlers placing in the top five, the Greyhounds wrestling program collected multiple honors from across the region.
Greyhounds head coach Adam Gillhouse was named Region 2-AAAA Coach of the Year with Hunter Hardwick and Noah Pieterick being named first-team all-region.
Pickleball tourney set April 4-5 Jones County Pickleball will host its second annual Pickling With My Peeps tournament April 4-5. The cost is $30 for Jones County Pickleball members and $40 for non-members.
Friday’s play will consist of mixed doubles set to start at 7 p.m. with men’s and women’s doubles beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday. To sign up, visit Pickleball.com and go to the tournament tab and type “JCPC.”
Hounds, Lady Hounds sweep Upson Lee in golf
The Greyhounds and Lady Greyhounds wrapped up last week by taking a pair of matches against Upson Lee. Led by Cooper Perry’s sub-40 round of 38 over nine holes, the Greyhounds posted a combined score of 160, eight strokes lower than Upson Lee’s.
Other top rounds for JCHS were Dixon Dowling with a 40 and the 41 by Cash Bearden and Ethan Lewis.
In the girls’ match, the leaders for the Lady Hounds were Kyndal Thomas and Zipporah Singleton as JCHS won by six strokes with an overall score of 110.
The Greyhounds took part in last week’s Stratford Invitational at Macon’s challenging Idle Hour Country Club in a field comprised mostly of private schools. In an 18-hole format, Jones County was led by Bearden’s 78, Perry’s round of 89 followed by rounds of 91, 92, and 92 by Lewis, Barrett Beasley and Dowling.
