Track teams sweep Monticello Invitational

High levels of success were tracked down by the Greyhounds and Lady Greyhounds at last week’s Monticello Invitational with both teams not only sweeping the overall team standings but taking top Individual showings home as well.

The Lady Hounds took first in the 4x100 and 4x800 relay events in addition to sweeping the top three positions in the 800, 1600 and 3200 meter run events as well as first in the long jump and discus. In the boys’ portion of the meet, first place came via the 4x100 and 4x800 relays, shot put, triple jump, 1600 meters, 800 meters, 100 meters and 200 meters.

In the 800 meters, Isabella Sanchez took first with a time of 2:30.26 ahead of Lilly Palmer and Jordan Norman-Brown with times of 2:40.23 and 2:47.90. Addison Robinson, Camryn Wommack and Tanner Watts swept first through third in the 1600 meters with times of 5:34.38, 5:57.70 and 6:07.18 with Mary Barnwell, Catelen Myers, Macie White, and Lilly Tanner doing likewise in the 3200 meters with times of 12:49.36, 13:44.11, 14:32.17 and 14:41.43.

The Lady Hounds’ success went further than that, as Sariyah Ellis ran a 13:31 to take fourth in the 100 meters with Kiaja Bullard’s 13:59 being good for seventh. Anzoria Bivins’ 28.97 earned third place in the 200 meters, while in the 400 meters, Mylan Ragins, Zandrea Thomas and Mariya Mims came in second, third and eighth with times of 1:07.96, 1:09.87 and 1:10.90.

Autumn Coleman finished near the front in both hurdles events, taking fifth in the 100-meter event with a run of 20:31 and finishing sixth in the 300 meters at 58:60.

Mya Anderson’s jump of 15-9 took first in the long jump with Angel Dennis’ 79-5 throw taking tops in the discus with the 68-2 of Diamond Sinclair being good for fifth. Sinclair’s throw of 31-3 was second in the shot put with Dennis being sixth in that event at 27-11. JCHS also got a sixthplace finish in the triple jump from Zy’DeAsia Adams at 28-3.

In the boys’ half of the meet, Travis Miller won the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.31, ahead of Jaivon Soalomon and Andre Hall, who ran to third and fourth with times of 11.50 and 11.58. JR Clark took first in the 200 meters with a finish of 24.01 as BJ Reid’s 25.56 was good for tenth. Brian Quedo was also tenth in the 400 meters, running a 58.93.

When it came to distance events, the Greyhounds expectedly dominated.

Andrew Marshall, Clay Lacy and Tyler Marshall swept the top three of the 800 meters with times of 2:06.57, 2:06.88, and 2:08.17. In the 3200 meters, Rylan Fuller, Ian Borsahole and Dalton Russell ran to finishes of second, fourth and sixth with times of 10:58.55, 11:28.40, and 12:00.34. Luke Thornton and Shaun Williams took first and second in the 1600 meters with times of 4:34.45 and 4:35.23.

In the 110-meter hurdles, Chance Banks’ 20.48 was good for sixth with Tripp Jones and Devin Edmonds running 20.69 and 21.61 to take seventh and eighth. Rylan Mathis claimed fifth in the 300-meter hurdles at 49.00 as Rudy Bowden and Terrel Glover timed in sixth and eighth at 52.70 and 55.28.

In addition to taking first in the 4x100 and 4x800 relay events, JCHS was also third in the 4x200 and second in the 4x400.

Solomon and Keith McQuary delivered first place in field events with Solomon doing so in the triple jump with at 43.6.5 and McQuary’s shot put throw of 41.25.

Other top finishers were Miller placing ninth in the long jump at 19-11, Aywan Fuller coming in ninth in the triple jump at 32-5, Christian Marshall and Joshua Stewart being ninth and tenth in the shot put at 28-3.5 and 27-10 addition to McQuary, Thomas Gosier and Gerald Evans placing fifth, eighth and ninth in the discus at 100-6, 75-11.5, and 72-1.
