Golfers top GMC Prep, finish near front at Ola tourney

With an eye toward the area tournament, the Greyhounds and Lady Greyhounds worked toward being able to play their best golf when it matters most, going on the road for one tournament and hosting another match last Thursday at Lake Jonesco Golf Course.

In what head coach Lance Pittman referred to as their best match of the season, the Greyhounds beat GMC with an overall round of 152 to the 171 of GMC Prep. Cash Bearden and Cooper Perry turned in sterling rounds of 35 with other low scores for JCHS being rounds of 41 by Barrett Beasley and Dixon Dowling with rounds of 42 being carded by Ethan Lewis and Hayes Miller.

For the Lady Hounds, Karlie Hoffman set the low round with 45. Other leaders were Ensley Barnes with a 48 and Kyndal Thomas’ 51.

Both teams also got a warm-up of sorts for the area tournament on Tuesday in a match hosted by Ola at Georgia National Golf Club, site of the April 29 area tournament.

The Greyhounds’ overall round of 171 placed second behind Ola by four strokes. Low scores for the Greyhounds were Lewis with a round of 41, Beasley with 42 Luke McCoy’s 43, Dowling and Perry with 44 and rounds of 45 by Miller and Bearden.

The Lady Greyhounds won first place with an overall score of 158, fivestrokes lower than second-place Pike County. Hoffman’s 46 led JCHS with other leaders being Thomas, Sarah Davis, and Lainey Daugherty with rounds of 56.
