Distance runners make statement at McEachern Invitational

TRACK & FIELD

Like the line in the Jason Aldean songs says, “they’re gonna know we were here.”

Jones County’s distance runners may have been one of the few teams from outside the greater Atlanta area at Saturday’s McEachern Invitational in Powder Springs, but the Greyhounds and Lady Greyhounds made their presence known. The Lady Hounds placed a combined four runners in the top six of the 1600- and 3200-meter events with the Greyhounds posting a combined four top-10 finishes ahead of the region meet on April 19 at Woodland in Stockbridge.

The latest race to have Addison Robinson finish near the head of the field was the girls 1600 meters as she took second with a time of 5:10.91. Lilly Palmer’s time of 5:38.23 gave JCHS two top-six finishes in the race. Tanner Watts and Camryn Wommack came home within the top five of the 3200 meters, finishing fourth and fifth by way of times of 13:05.33 and 13:07.61.

In the boys 1600 meters, Luke Thornton’s 4:30.00 was good for sixth with Tyler Marshall timing in 10th at 4:33.54. Gavin Robinson and Clay Lacy took seventh and eighth in the 3200 meters, running times of 10:38.23 and 10:38.34. In the 800 meters, Shaun Williams was 12th at 2:02.34 as Andrew Marshall took 20th with a run of 2:06.54.
