The State 4-H Modified Trap Shotgun Match was held at Rock Eagle May 10, with all in attendance having to endure wet, cold and very muddy conditions. The event had 930 participants from 65 counties, with Jones County fielding around 52.
Jones County had the No. 3 junior team in the state with a score of 93 out of 100, led by Eli Howard with a perfect 25 in singles and Cole Watson with a 7/10 in team doubles shoot-off.The other members of the third-place juniors team were Christopher Wieters Jr., Chelsea Ledrick and Patrick Carson. The senior team shot 98 out of 100 in their bid to win the state match for the third year in a row, but that was not enough to place them in the top 3 this year. Per 4-H rules, once a shooter participates on the winning team, they are no longer eligible to participate in the team competition in future years.
Landon Lewis, a member of the 2023 first-place senior team from Jones County, was the No. 3 senior individual shooter in the state, with a perfect score in singles and 8/10 in individual doubles.
