“Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ” (Gal 2:16) The law is good. It displays the righteousness of God and reveals our unrighteousness.
Like a mirror, God’s laws reflect just how dirty we are. But like a mirror, the law can’t clean us up.
It only lets us know we need to be cleaned up.
Obeying the law, doing its works, can’t save us. It actually condemns us because the law says, “The soul that sins, it shall die“--Eze 18:20.
Our flesh is too weak to obey the laws of God (Rom 8:3), so we can’t be holy by keeping the law because we CAN’T keep the law. That old sin nature from granddaddy Adam always gets in the way.
So God sent His Son “in the likeness of sinful flesh” and on the cross, Jesus paid the ultimate price for sin. He died to satisfy the law. His sinless blood was the pure sacrifice. Jesus died for us--the souls that sin. None of your works will earn you brownie points with God. You’re wasting your time. But the blood of Jesus will cleanse you of all sin (I Jn 1:7). He fulfilled all the law, perfectly obeying each one. It’s His works that count. By faith in Him you can be saved, made right with God.
