Through recent seasons, fans in Jones County have earned a reputation for robust support on the road, sometimes outdrawing opponents.
Greyhounds supporters will have plenty of chances to hammer down that reputation this football season as Jones County will play on the road six times, including three in a row to begin the regular season. The last time that the Greyhounds had only four home games in a season was in 2022. That year, the Hounds only played five true road games as one was a neutral site game against Northside. That won’t be the case this year as JCHS will have six road games in opposing stadiums, five in Henry County.
After a home preseason scrimmage on Aug. 8 against Mary Persons, Jones County opens the season with three games in a row on the road, starting Aug. 15 at Veterans before games at Woodland and Hampton on Aug. 22 and Aug. 29 begin the region schedule. Hampton could stand to be a strong early-season region test as the Hornets finished third last year with one of those losses being 28-9 to Jones County.
From there, JCHS will head home to Greyhound Field with two contests in a span of three games. Jones County may have only four home games this fall but will have the benefit of its potentially biggest games being in Gray. Ola, which beat Jones County 7-3 last year, visits on Sept. 5. Then, after a Sept. 12 road game at Union Grove and an open date, Stockbridge visits JCHS for homecoming. The Greyhounds lost to the Tigers last year in a game that was later forfeited.
Yet another road game will come after that, at McDonough on Oct. 3 before an Oct. 10 home contest against ELCA sets the stage for a stretch run to end the season. Following an Oct. 17 open date, Jones County visits Eagles Landing Oct. 24 and hosts Locust Grove on Oct. 31.
