‘I never moved away’

Former ILB Lundy excited to be at JCHS as inside linebackers coach

For Chase Lundy, it was the hope to one day be back in Gray as a coach for the Greyhounds.

Now, the former JCHS player is doing just that, albeit on a quicker timeline than he could have ever anticipated years ago.

“I was hoping to be here one day,” Lundy said. “I didn’t think it’d be this quick.”

Lundy, previously on staff at Putnam County, seems to have always had an eye on the Greyhounds. Formerly an inside linebacker, he even lived in Jones County when coaching in Eatonton.

“I never moved away. In 2019. I got married and we lived off Chapman Road and then moved into a house in Gray last summer,” Lundy said.

Then came the early part of this year when Justin Montgomery was hired as the Greyhounds’ new head coach and Lundy was approached about coming aboard the new coaching staff.

Thanks to the allure of coming back home, it was not a hard sell for Lundy, who is coaching the same position group that he played — inside linebackers.

“That was the only selling point for me,” Lundy said. “My family’s here, I grew up here. Where else would you want to be?” Lundy said. “The first time I met (Coach Montgomery), he had me fired up about Jones County football. He got me fired up and even more excited to come back.”
