In the Gospel of John, the Apostle has Jesus referring to Himself as I AM. This is God’s name, the name God told Moses to use with the Hebrews (Ex 3:14). Seven times in John’s Gospel, Jesus uses I AM in connection with Himself. His “I AMs” link Him to the Old Testament revelation of God.
• Jn 6:35--I AM the bread of life
• Jn 8:12--I AM the light of the world
• Jn 10:7--I AM the door of the sheep
• Jn 10:11--I AM the Good Shepherd
• Jn 11:25--I AM the resurrection and the Life
• Jn 14:6--I AM the way, the truth, and the life • Jn 15:1--I AM the true vine By using these I AM statements, Jesus is declaring His divinity, His Godness, His redemptive mission. There are others that identify Jesus as God--Jn 8:58; Jn 10:10; and Jn 18:5--but the above seven are metaphors that focus on His work of redemption. Make no mistake concerning this.
Jesus is God--God the Son in the flesh. God paid for your sins on the cross in His own Flesh and Blood.
I AM came to rescue you from the slavery of sin and from the works of the devil. No one else could have redeemed you. Have you been redeemed by the great I AM--Jesus?
