Rolling up the miles
The Greyhounds will hit the road early on to begin the season, playing their first three games on the road. Overall, Jones County has six away games. The flip side? Two of the Greyhounds’ home games are against Ola and Stockbridge, two frontrunners in the region.
New faces
With a combined six starters returning, the early part of the season is expected to be marked by new faces sliding into either new positions or greater roles.
The Greyhounds will have the benefit of opening games against Veterans, Woodland, and Hampton, teams that went a combined 11 games last season before a Sept. 5 game against Ola, which has beaten JCHS two out of the past three meetings.
The power of home-field advantage looms
The Greyhounds’ region, 2-AAAA, will match up against region 6-AAAA to open the state playoffs. That means that the region’s third and fourth teams would travel into the metro Atlanta area in the opening round against the likes of Kell, Blessed Trinity, and Westminster, all of which are located in or near Cobb County.
Purple and Gold Pride
The Greyhounds coaching staff includes coaches with an impetus when it comes to their alma mater.
Receivers coach Antwan Toomer is a JCHS graduate and offensive line coach River Vaughn, offensive coordinator Bradley Hunnicutt as well as inside linebackers coach Chase Lundy are all former Jones County players.
