Dear Editor,
As a life-long resident of Jones County; graduating from Maggie Califf High School in 1963; having taught 5th grade at Maggie Califf Elementary and high school psychology, civics, and government; and retired as an elementary school principal in Bibb County; I find it commendable concerning the recent actions of the interim system’s superintendent Mr. Clinton Burston.
I know how it feels as a former principal to have the head of the school system visit your school. I’ve heard the remarks of the staff when the visit is over how the visibility, conversations, and interaction with all school personnel and students contribute to a positive school climate. To have the superintendent ask about your school’s vision and how it overlaps with the system’s ensures a feeling of oneness and teamwork.
Mr. Burston has demonstrated what a seamless vision for a system should be. I congratulate him and wish him continued success.
