Real Life

“I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion”--Rom 9:15 God is God. He is sovereign. He can do anything He desires. God will therefore have mercy on whom He chooses to have mercy on. He will extend that compassion, that mercy, to those we may feel do not deserve any mercy. But God doesn’t need our permission or our counsel. He is God.

He is sovereign.

So just whom will God have mercy on? Anyone who repents and believes on His Son Jesus. God will show mercy on that person--that whom. Rom 9:15 does not negate or annul the need for Jesus.

God just doesn’t pick out some whom and force His salvation on them. He just doesn’t excuse their sins. Forgiveness without atonement for sin is not justice, and God is all about justice (Ps 37:28).

Jesus was the atonement for sin. On the cross, He took on Him the judgment due us. Because justice was rendered on the cross, anyone--any whom--can receive God’s mercy. And sometimes those whom surprise us. Paul, a persecutor of the church who had Christians arrested and murdered, was a whom that shocked the early church. Yet God had mercy on him, and he became a great Apostle.

God will have mercy on you--if you repent and believe on Jesus.
