Volley Hounds win three straight matches

GREYHOUND VOLLEYBALL

There’s a bit of time for the Volley Hounds before their next scheduled region match on Sept. 2. But that hardly means that this is a time for rest for Jones County.

Instead, the Lady Hounds’ schedule is peppered with non-region matches, a span of the season in which the goals are multi-pronged.

For sure, one intent is to win, and JCHS did that last week, sweeping a road tri-match at FPD and Crawford County in addition to defeating Tattnall Square last Thursday at home.

The sweep of FPD and Crawford County was led by Isabella Bodnarchuk’s 47 total digs, 5 aces, and converting 100 percent of all serves.

A widespread effort led to the two-game sweep of Tattnall. In addition to the four blocks and eight kills by Adyson Bell and Jayda Round’s two blocks, six kills and three aces, Bodnarchuk, Grace Faircloth, Olivia Edmonson, and Zakeena Sturgeon each had two aces a piece.

“A lot of them were up front getting those hits and getting those digs on the back row that we needed,” Lady Greyhounds head coach Leah Bodnarchuk said.

But more critical last week for Jones County was that, within non-region matches that do not count in the region standings, the Volley Hounds got a chance to try out new lineups and alignments.

“We did a lot of moving around and changing positions, just trying to get it right. Just with all of that going on and seeing that everybody has to work for a spot, I think that helped,” Bodnarchuk said. “I definitely took this entire week to do that because it was not a region contest.”
