The following information is gleaned from incident reports, which are public record, from the Jones County Sheriff’s Department and Gray Police Department Aug. 15-19, 2025.
Aug. 15
Shoplifting
Corp. Sullivan was dispatched to a local business in reference to a male subject that ran out of the business with merchandise.
When Sullivan arrived on scene, he spoke to an employee that stated a male subject ran out the front door of the business with a shopping basket full of clothing items. The employee was not sure what all was stolen. Sullivan found out that the vehicle the male left in was parked in the back of the business in the last parking spot. The male was seen jumping into the vehicle passenger side and then leaving the parking lot towards Jones County. A short time later, Lt.
Carr stopped a vehicle for no insurance, and it appeared to be the same vehicle as the getaway car. Carr identified the male driver and the subject admitted to being at the business earlier, however, he stated he had a receipt for his items but could not produce the receipt. Sullivan arrived at the location of the stop and placed the male subject in the rear of his patrol car for the traffic citations per Lt. Carr.
Sullivan then drove the male back to the business to see if the employee could identify the male subject as the one that stole the items. The employee said he looked like the same subject but couldn’t say 100 percent that was definitely the subject that took the items. The male subject did admit to changing clothes and did not have on the same thing he wore at the time of arrest. The employee advised they wished to have the male subject banned from the business. The male subject was booked and released on the citations and given a criminal trespass order.
Aug. 17
Move over
Officer Farley was conducting a traffic stop with a semi-truck on Gray Hwy. in the turning lane when a vehicle passed by and failed to move into the adjacent lane while he was conducting the stop. Farley finished up with the traffic stop and proceeded to stop the vehicle that came by.
The officer noticed the vehicle in a nearby parking lot. Farley pulled into the parking lot and made contact with the female driver. Farley advised the female that she needed to move over into the next lane when approaching emergency vehicles with their lights on. While speaking to the female driver, Farley noticed her eyes were glazed over and the strong smell of marijuana was coming from inside the vehicle.
Farley also noticed a strong smell of air freshener coming from inside the vehicle seeming to try to mask the smell of the marijuana. Farley then asked the female if there was any more marijuana inside the vehicle, and the female stated she “did not know.” Farley then called for Officer Meeks to join him at the scene of the traffic stop to assist.
Officer Meeks arrived, and Farley had her search the female. Farley then proceeded to search the vehicle while Officer Meeks stood by. During the vehicle search, Farley found a small black book bag that was on the front passenger seat and searched inside the bag.
In the main compartment of the book bag, the officer found a bag that had a green leafy material suspected to be marijuana. At that time, the female driver was placed in handcuffs and transported to the Jones County jail for booking on the charges of possession of marijuana less than one ounce and failure to move over.
Aug. 18
Vehicle break-in Dep. Langston was dispatched to a local residence in reference to a vehicle break-in. Langston arrived on scene and met with the complainant who advised that someone broke in his vehicle and stole several items. The male complainant advised the deputy that his wife’s wallet with bank cards and other items were taken from the vehicle. The male also advised Langston that he had a Smith and Wesson shield 9mm handgun and a Phoenix Arms .22 caliber handgun that had also been taken from inside the vehicle. The complainant stated that the vehicle was not locked. The complainant was given a case card and the Jones County Sheriff’s Investigations Dept. was notified of the incident.
Aug. 19
Warrant served
Dep. Johnson was dispatched to a local residence in reference to someone with a warrant being at the residence. Johnson was advised that there should be a female subject there with warrants out of Bibb County. Johnson arrived at the residence and stood by until the female subject arrived.
Once the female pulled into the driveway, Johnson pulled in and activated his emergency lights.
The female approached the deputy and gave him her name and date of birth. Johnson ran a check with the female’s name, and it did in fact come back to show a violation of probation warrant out of Bibb County. The warrant was verified, and the female subject was taken into custody. Johnson transported the female subject to a local business on Gray Highway and Joycliff Road where she was turned over to a Bibb County officer.
