Real Life

“Then saith He unto His disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the laborers are few.--Mt 9:37 This past Monday we celebrated Labor Day, a day set aside to honor the working American, the Laborer of this great land.

Jesus is looking for laborers to work in His field. He tells us to “Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest“ (Jn 4:35). The field--the world, our nation, our state, our community, your family, neighbors, co-workers, school mates, friends--Jesus says they are ready for harvesting.

They are ripe for the Gospel: and they are plenteous.

But Jesus also says the laborers are few. The laborers are us who are saved, yet some of us aren’t laboring for Christ as we should. Do you witness to others? Do you invite folks to your church so they can hear the Gospel and fellowship with other believers? Do you minister to the needs of those who need a meal or other material help?

Do you pray for the lost that God has placed on your heart? Do you give financially to support the Gospel’s spread?

We are Jesus’ disciples and He sends us into His fields to gather His harvest. As the hymn sings: “Let us labor for the Master from the dawn till setting sun.”

The harvest is ready and ripe.
