After they dropped an early match on Tuesday to Lake Oconee Academy, the Lady Greyhounds regrouped before finishing out the tri-match against Mary Persons. After time spent focusing on goldfish and tattoos, the Volley Hounds bounced back, taking down the Bulldogs in three games 25-16 and 15-8 after dropping the first game, 25-23.
The win came after an earlier loss that day to LOA after Jones County won the first game 25-18 before dropping the final two, 25-14 and 15-7.
The Lady Hounds split all four of last week’s matches, sweeping Upson Lee 25-10, 25-21 and fell in non-region play to Ola, 25-18 and 25-12.
Adyson Bell led the Volley Hounds in Tuesday’s home match, having seven kills, four blocks and eight block assists.
“After the LOA game, because they played so well, it was almost like they lost their energy. Their coach was reading us very well, so that played into it,” Lady Greyhounds head coach Leah Bodnarchuk said. “I took them back to the locker room and we talked about their energy. We always talk about being goldfish, goldfish just keep swimming and don’t remember.
I bought them some tattoos that said, ‘play your heart out,’ and we told them, ‘Every time you start losing that energy, think about that, and you can do it.’” Down 1-0 against Mary Persons in the second set, the Lady Hounds worked their way to a 14-9 lead and then 16-11 before a Jayda Round block made it 18-15. Following a serve by Caroline Rickman to move the score to 22-15, two points by Round as well as another on a block closed out the win to force the third game.
An ace by Bell made it 9-5 in the third game, and Olivia Edmonson extended the advantage to 12-7 off the serve before two points with Isabella Bodnarchuk at the serve followed by one by Round closed out the win.
