Dr. Kay adds new dentists, office space to serve community

BUSINESS NEWS

Dr. Kenneth Kay recently announced the expansion of his dental practice in Gray that includes more office space and two additional dentists.

Kay has served the community of Gray since 2008, and in addition to his dental practice, he is known for his love of sports and the sponsorship of local sports teams, especially the Jones County High School Greyhounds.

Kay is originally from Marietta and moved to Gray to take over the dental office of Dr. Danny Lee after his death.

In a Aug. 25 interview, Kay talked about his plans for the future.

“I’m not retiring,” he said. “I’m just slowing down.”

Kay introduced Dr. Scott Silliman, formerly of Douglasville, and Dr. Jake Jenkins, formerly of Augusta. In addition to the two new dentists on staff, the construction of two additional rooms in the office was completed in March.

Silliman said he had a practice in Douglasville with his wife for 33 years that they recently sold. He and Kay met each other while attending the Medical College of Georgia School of Dentistry.

A mutual friend who knew Kay was looking for help reconnected the two. Silliman said he and his wife wanted to move to a small town. They now live in Greensboro and bought what he described as a fixer-upper that keeps them busy. Silliman said they have two sons who are both finishing veterinary school at the University of Georgia.

“It’s a pleasure to work with these guys. I look forward to getting to know the people in the community,” he said.

Jenkins said he and his wife have a 14-month-old and wanted to move to a small town. He said they were interested in this area to be closer to family. His wife’s grandmother is a patient of Kay’s and shared Jenkins’ contact information.

The first phone call went well, and after several visits, Kay made the job offer.

“I’m excited to be here,” Jenkins said. “I hope to become a familiar face.”

He said the additional office space and staff present more options. Jenkins said services are now available in the office, such as root canals, that previously had to be referred.

Kay said his plan is to work two days a week and play a lot more golf.

“I like what I do, but I need help,” he said. “I’m not going to be here forever, and it’s important for my patients to be in good hands.”

Kay said he will be working Monday and Tuesday, Jenkins, Monday through Thursday, and Silliman, Tuesday through Thursday.

The office of Dr. Kenneth Kay is located at 250 W. Clinton Street in Gray. The phone number for more information is 478-986-1830.
