Jones County’s middle school cross country runners didn’t waver against some of the best runners in central Georgia last week at the Hornet Hustle Invitational. The girls narrowly finished second while the boys edged Monroe County in a meet contested at Middle Georgia State’s course.
Cruz Hudgins and Colton Gordon led the boys’ finish as they came in 10th and 13th ahead of Rhett Renner in 18th and Peyton Simmons taking 26th. Also contributing to the finish in a field of more than 210 runners were Spencer Moore, Brooks Scott, Cole Brown, Elijah Clopton, Phin Childs, and Bentley Cook.
Madison Marshall’s second-place finish led the girls’ contingent with Phoebe Palmer in fourth in front of Kennedy Marshall and Kaitlyn Flickinger in 19th and 20th. Bailey Gowan came in 24th in her first race back from a previous injury with other top finishes coming from Kloe McMillan and Lili Cook.
