A pedestrian struck last week while crossing a busy intersection on Gray Highway died as a result of the injuries she received.
A report of the accident by Jones County Sheriff’s Office Fatality Investigator Christopher Shurley stated a 2004 Ford Taurus was traveling southbound toward Bibb County at approximately 8:30 p.m. Sept 12. He said, as the vehicle was passing through the intersection of Joycliff Road and the fourlane highway, the pedestrian stepped out from the shoulder of the road to cross.
Shurley said the pedestrian was struck by the Taurus and came to rest in the right southbound lane.
The pedestrian was identified as 24-year-old Mya Deshon Brown of Macon. An ambulance was called and transported her to Atrium Health Navicent for emergency care, but Brown passed away from her injuries.
The investigator said the driver of the Taurus told him she was on her way to a friend’s house and was originally in the left-hand lane. The driver said she merged to the right-hand lane prior to reaching the intersection.
She said the pedestrian suddenly stepped in the roadway and in front of the car as she proceeded through the green light. The driver said she did not have time to react to avoid hitting the pedestrian.
Video of the accident supported the driver’s statement and there are no pending charges.
