Lloyd Thomas Bowden, 54, of Gray, Georgia, passed peacefully in his sleep on the morning of September 26, 2025, after courageously battling declining health for the past five months. Born February 2, 1971, in Macon, Georgia, Lloyd was the first-born son of Billy Bowden and Trudy Mitchell Bowden. He was raised in Gray, where he learned the value of hard work alongside his father on the family poultry farm.
Lloyd’s outstanding athleticism shone brightly during his school years, where he excelled as a star athlete in football, basketball, track, and baseball. He graduated from Jonesco Academy in 1989, leaving behind a legacy of athletic achievement and school spirit.
Throughout his career, Lloyd worked primarily in the heavy equipment business, where he earned a reputation as one of the finest equipment operators in the field. His skill, dedication, and work ethic were respected by all who knew him professionally.
He was also known for being able to work on and fix most anything, a talent that made him invaluable to friends and family alike. In his spare time, Lloyd loved being at the river, where he could be found swimming, fishing, and having a good time. These moments by the water brought him great joy and peace. Every fall you would find and most likely hear him cheering on the Georgia Bulldogs with his best friend and brother, Dan Curry. If he ever threw his hat, you knew Georgia was not playing well!
Lloyd was baptized into the Christian Family of Faith and the membership of Bradley Baptist Church alongside his late wife, Mary Bowden on August 21, 2011.
Above all, Lloyd was known as the life of the party wherever he went.
He possessed an infectious spirit and was always ready to entertain and ensure everyone around him had a good time.
His witty, quick humor and his ability to quote movies nonstop brought laughter to countless conversations. His vibrant personality and joy for life touched countless friends and family members who will forever cherish the laughter and memories he brought to their lives.
Through all of his struggles, his love for those he cared for could never be questioned or doubted.
Lloyd was preceded in death by the love of his life, Mary Bowden; his father, Billy Bowden; and his brother, Jeff Bowden.
He is survived by his wife, Margie Lovejoy, who was a faithful caregiver; his mother, Trudy Mitchell Bowden; his sister, Cheney (Eric) Maynard; his step-mother, Linda Bowden Coulter; his children: Daniel Bowden, Randi (Greg) Ferina, Dylan Bowden, Makayla Schafer, Leslie Craft, and Lauren Lovejoy; Toni Blankenship, mother of Daniel and Randi; Lisa Maynard Herndon, mother of Dylan; his grandchildren: Akira Ferina, Andrea Ferina, Audrey Ferina, Anthony Ferina, Noah Bowden, Foster Bowden, Lee Bowden and Cole Craft; and his nieces and nephews: Logan (Nick) Bentley, Seth (Haley) Bowden, Annie Dove Bowden (Candler Bowden), Owen Maynard, Wesley Maynard, and Wade Maynard.
Lloyd’s legacy lives on through the many lives he touched with his warmth, humor, and generous spirit. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Services were held Saturday, October 4, 2025, at Bradley Baptist Church. Visitation at 10:00 a.m., Celebration of Life at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Dylan Bowden & Rev. Steve Johnson officiating.
